So as I'm reading through all the study material for the dreaded Nevada Applicators License I start to realize that all of my information seems really dated. So I called the Nevada Dept. of Ag. and asked them if I was studying the correct volume. The lady on the phone politely responded "yes". Then I asked her if she knew that the last update was in Sept of 1981. Again she said "yes". After voicing my frustration about the whole situation she said, "we don't care how it's done now, we just test on how it was done in 1981". Am I the only one who thinks this is asinine? Most of the chemicals they are discussing have been ban for 10+ yrs now. This is my first applicators license test, but I was wondering if all states are this behind in the times? I know quite a few of you have taken more than one states tests, and are they all this retarded? Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure things have changed quite a bit in the last 30 yrs. Do people really use flaggers anymore? Sorry, I guess I'm just a little frustrated on how the study material is as old as I am.

Hi Angeloroot1

I am only licensed in a few states, but Nevada was probably the funkiest test I have had to take. Yes flagger was the correct answer to "best means of accurate swath guidance" It was surprisingly detailed in some aspects though. Know how and where all NV specific bug pests overwinter, and how all NV specific plant pests reproduce...
I think for me the funkiest part was that my test was a series of "flash cards". not sure if it is still like that?

Take care, and good luck! Rob

Thanks Rob! I'm pretty sure it's still in flash card format if the last revision was 30 yrs ago. Well at least I have some where to start now. Thanks again!

Hello Angelo,
did you do the test here in NV yet? I am studying myself using the test guide they provide, it is surely antiquated. Most of the data appears to be taken directly from the general pest control exam that I had to take when I started a pest control business in las vegas. Im wondering if they changed the "flash card" approach and if they still have all of the entimology questions like Rob encountered?

I didn't end up flying in Nevada so I didn't end up taking the tests. They are quite expensive to just take for the fun of it. Idaho charges $10 for each test which is very reasonable. Sorry, I wish I had a little more info for you.

Hi Angelo,
No problem, since I live down here, I'm gonna get this one outta the way as a start. I see you used to live in Carson city. I went to collage at UNR, did a lot of soaring out in Minden before moving down south. I was wondering if you were going to do some work with Morris in Yerington or with the old Rosachi dusters outfit? I dont know much about either except I met one of the Rosachi's with a ag cat one time when I landed a glider out at his strip. He was a real nice guy. I am just starting out here, a year or so behind your progress, but I do have a whole bunch of TW time just under 2,000, and I own a pest control buiz. Got into doing restorations, taylorcraft, stinson c-195, ended up keeping the taylorcraft and just finished a bellanca cruisair. I hope your seat search is sucessful this next year. You going to the convention in Dec? I'll buy you a beer.

I know someone who took the NV tests earlier this year. His experience with the entomology and weed reproduction questions mirrored mine. He did some tests in Vegas, they were still flash carded, and some in Reno, where they were from pamphlets. All were Scan Tron format.

As Angelo pointed out, you probably already have the lions share accounted for... Another thing to look in to, is whether or not they will even issue you a license without a "wall' to hang it on. Seems to me like NV was one of those states that wanted to know where an apprentice pilot was working before they issued the license. Can't say it was NV for sure, but I have run into this before.

Take care, Rob

Hi Rob, good to see you here, if I figure out how to work the PM I would call you lol. Yes they are interested in who I wil be working for buy I guess I have a loophole since I already have a commercial pest applicators licence, they call it a "principle". I own a PC company here. The secretary seemed to think that was ok. We will see what happens after I take and pass the test however. Thanks again for the site. I have learned more here in the past few weeks than anywhere else including NAAA. How is the Iowa work going? Should be finishing up pretty soon.

Hi dandduster2b,

You just squeaked that post in while I was writing the last one. I wonder if you don't have the Rosachi outfit and Mike Morris transposed? Mike bases out of Orovada, but pretty much flies state wide,I believe he is also the 'great' operator that angelo spoke of in the other thread ;) . Also, I remeber hearing of a glider landing out at Mikes strip once, on the other hand, I'm sure they've all had a glider or two drop in before :D

Take care, Rob

Whoops... and again...lol

I am home from IA, which is why I have been away from the board for a while.... lots of catch up to play here  and a surprisingly busy work load to return to!

AHH yes,
It is goood to get home. Yes quite a few of us have landed over at Rosachi's place over the years. As for Morris, I was thinking he was based out of the Yerington airport. I have seen a turbine thrush and I believe a 301 parked in the open hanger over there when I have flown through this past year. Rosachi was over in smith valley closer to the Pine nut mtns. He used to have a single agcat parked out there which I never really saw flying much. Thanks for all the advice, the goal here is to do "something" everyday to further the goal of getting a seat. I am still in learning mode big time here.
